A senior probation counselor at the Ocnita Probation Office was recently detained by officers from the General Territorial Directorate North of the NAC and prosecutors from the North Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office. The official is suspected of allegedly claiming and receiving 200 euros from a convict to exempt him from serving his sentence, but he was reported by him to the NAC.
According to the case, the whistleblower was to perform 140 hours of unpaid community service in accordance with the sentence, and the probation counselor promised him that he would not supervise the execution of the sentence, which he could avoid.
The GTD Nord and the prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation, in this case, pursuant to art. 324 penal code - passive corruption. Today, under the control of the NAC officers, the amount of 200 euros was transmitted, and the probation counselor was detained for 72 hours.
We remind, that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.
The Northern Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.
