Director of the NAC, Iulian Rusu, has attended the 6th meeting of the Republic of Moldova-European Union Association Committee in Brussels

The director of the National Anticorruption Center was part of the Moldovan delegation, along with the acting chief prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Elena Cazacov, and other officials from several state authorities.
At the meeting, the discussions focused on our country's progress in implementing the Association Agreement in several areas such as: justice, corruption, human rights, security and public order, preventing and combating money laundering and others.
In his speech on Justice and Corruption, Iulian Rusu spoke about the institution's efforts to create a sustainable system of integrity and anti-corruption in Moldova, noting that the Center has an unprecedented openness from partner institutions, state authorities in general and external partners in particular. Thus, the actions taken by the NAC in the field of preventing and combating corruption were reviewed, referring to mechanisms such as anti-corruption expertise of draft regulations, assessment of institutional integrity, strategic and operational analysis, as well as information and public awareness activities. "As for combating of corruption, together with prosecutors, we are focusing on the effective investigation of complex corruption cases, so that all those persons in charge who are found guilty to be brought to justice and the embezzled funds to be recovered," mentiones the director of NAC.
European officials were also briefed on the results of the NAC's Criminal Assets Receiving Agency in the field of identifying, prosecuting and seizing illicit assets and the importance of the strategic document National Crime Recovery Program, which will boost the process of recovery of criminal assets.
In their turn, the EU representatives mentioned that they took note of the steps taken by the Moldovan authorities and encouraged our country to continue to be engaged in carrying out the necessary actions for a comprehensive judicial reform.
Note: The meetings of the Association Committee are events that take place annually and have the role of discussing the most important progress, but also the challenges in the implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement. At the 6th meeting, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova was led by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and European Integration Vladimir Cuc, and that of the EU by Luc Devigne, Director for the Eastern Partnership, Russia, Central Asia and the OSCE in the European Service for External Action.
