What is the role and duties of the NAC in preventing and fighting corruption, how the Center works from the inside, but also some examples of good practices, provided by the management and officers of the NAC, were the main topics discussed at a meeting with students from the Faculty of Law within the Moldova State University, the International Free University of Moldova and the Ştefan cel Mare Academy, all of which are members of the European Association of Law Students, ELSA.
The director of the NAC spoke to the young people about the institution's role in investigating systemic and high-level corruption cases, in partnership with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, and also informed them about the crucial role of the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency in sanctioning the beneficiaries of stolen money .
"The role of the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency is mainly in cases where the subjects embezzled assets, which they later hid from the authorities. In this sense, the Agency carries out parallel financial investigations, identifies and applies seizures on illicit assets, hidden both on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and abroad. Later, these assets are to be confiscated for the benefit of the state, after the pronouncement of a court decision. In order to fulfill this mission, the Agency works with several international institutions, making colossal efforts to establish close relations with their counterparts, in order to facilitate the repatriation processes of those assets, located in foreign jurisdictions”, said the NAC head.
Iulian Rusu invited the young people to join the NAC team, if they are willing to apply their skills, obtained at the university, for an interesting but also responsible job.
The students took a tour of the institution, visiting the Center's Guard Unit, where people's calls to the National Anticorruption Hotline are received, as wellas the Criminal Detention Center.
The study visit was organized at the request of NAC’s anti-corruption volunteers, who are also the institution's messengers in campaigns aimed to promote integrity and cultivate an honest climate among young people.
