NAC synthesis: 7 police officers detained and arrested for passive corruption and over 4 million lei transferred to CARA’s accounts

The National Anticorruption Center has reported several activities, carried out last week on the anti-corruption component, as well as other actions from the spectrum of institutional attributions. Thus, the NAC announced the detention and arrest of 7 NPSI policemen, but also the deposit of over 4 million lei - the equivalent of 242 thousand dollars - on the treasury accounts of the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the NAC. Also, the institution was notified about the application of a 2-year prison sentence in respect of a businessman and a mediator - case under the management of the institution's criminal investigation body.

To be mentioned that at the moment, 2 individuals are detained in the Detention Center of the institution, and 10 other people, arrested in the cases started by the NAC, are placed in penitentiaries. During the reference period, criminal prosecution officers initiated 7 criminal cases, in total over 500 cases are in the process.

Also, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the NAC announced seizures worth about half a million lei, applied within a criminal case initiated on passive corruption, instrumented by the criminal investigation officers of the NAC.

In the field of corruption prevention, the Legislation Directorate completed and handed over to the authors 14 anti-corruption expert reports and 20 opinions on draft normative acts, examined last week. The NAC also notifies the release of 153 integrity records, the reception of 47 calls to the National Anti-Corruption Hotline and 1463 materials registered in the Center's Chancellery.
