The deputy head of a Police Inspectorate in the country was caught red-handed by the NAC officers in an influence peddling case. He allegedly demanded and received 2,500 euros for not complying with a request for committing a crime.
According to preliminary investigations, the deputy of a police inspectorate allegedly claimed to have influence over the head of the crime investigation section, but also over an investigation officer within the same institution. The suspect would have intended to cause the public officials with special status, under his command, not to carry out actions that are part of their service obligations, namely not to comply with a request regarding the commission of a crime. Thus, he allegedly claimed and later received, under the control of the NAC officers, undue monetary means in the amount of 2,500 euros.
Following the searches carried out in the service offices of the police inspectorate, residences and means of transport, objects and documents relevant to the case were seized.
Currently, the National Anti-corruption Centre is carrying out actions, under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office, to establish and document all the persons involved in the mentioned illegal actions and to hold them criminally liable. The deputy head of the inspectorate was detained for 72 hours.
We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced, and investigations in this case continue.
