NAC has imposed fines of approximately 9,000,000 lei for “passive electoral corruption”
06.12.2024 206 ViewsThe National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has informed that, up to December 6, fines have been imposed of approximately 9,000,000 lei on the basis of reports received from the Police, regarding the finding of the contravention provided for in art. 47/1 of the Contravention Code – “passive electoral corruption”. These are fines ranging from 25,000 lei to 37,500 lei, per case, with individuals being sanctioned for claiming, accepting or receiving, personally or through an intermediary, undue goods, services, privileges or advantages in any form for themselves or for another person, for the purpose of exercising or not exercising electoral rights during the elections.
Currently, the NAC continues to examine the minutes received from the General Police Inspectorate, and will make decisions on them. It should be noted that the person who committed the contravention is released from contravention liability if he/she self-reported and/or actively contributed to the discovery or counteraction of the commission of the electoral corruption act.
Article 47/1 was introduced by Law no. 230 of 31.07.2024 and entered into force on 15.08.2024, and the competence was assigned to the National Anti-corruption Centre.
