A lawyer from Chisinau and an accomplice detained by the NAC officers in a case of influence peddling committed under aggravating circumstances

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has announced the detention of a lawyer from Chisinau and an accomplice in a case of influence peddling committed under aggravating circumstances. At this time, the NAC officers, under the procedural leadership of the prosecutors of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, are conducting 12 searches and other criminal investigation actions in 5 cases initiated on corruption charges.

Thus, the actions of a lawyer and other persons are being examined, manifested by the demand and receipt of financial means, in amounts ranging from 500 euros to 47,000 euros, in exchange for the promise to influence some prosecutors and judges in order to positively resolve several criminal cases or preventive measures.

Following the criminal investigation actions carried out this morning, anti-corruption officers seized several objects and documents relevant to criminal cases initiated for corruption, and two people were detained for a period of 72 hours and are to be placed in solitary confinement.

We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is pronounced.
