The Chisinau Court, Buiucani, found a man guilty of committing the crime of influence peddling, imposing a sentence of 2 years in prison. At the same time, the confiscation of the defendant's account for the benefit of the state of the equivalent of 300 euros was ordered, an amount of money that, in the opinion of the court, directly belonged to the defendant as a result of the alleged trafficking.
According to the evidence presented in court, accumulated by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (AP) jointly with the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), the defendant, in complicity with another person, allegedly demanded and received the total amount of 1200 euros from a driver's license applicant, to influence employees of the Public Services Agency and illegally obtain the license for categories "B" and "C".
The sentence is to be appealed at the Chisinau Centre Court of Appeal, the state prosecutor considering the decision to acquit one of the defendants unfounded.
Note: The person accused of committing a crime shall be presumed innocent as long as his guilt is not established by a final court decision of conviction.
