Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors from the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office are conducting about 30 searches today in 12 criminal cases on active corruption, passive corruption and influence peddling in aggravating circumstances. The actions are being carried out in several regions of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the investigation materials, the actions of four judges, one prosecutor and three lawyers involved in corruption in criminal and minor offense cases under examination by the Hâncești Court, as well as by the Chisinau Court of Appeal, were documented. Thus, the suspects allegedly favoured the resolution of some cases in exchange for sums of money or other illicit benefits. At the same time, several people who offered bribes to judges through intermediary lawyers began to collaborate with the NAC officers.
On the morning of 19.03.2025, the Superior Council of Magistracy was requested to issue the agreement to conduct searches and hold 4 judges criminally liable. One judge and one lawyer were detained for 72 hours and placed in the NAC Detention Centre, and the other suspects in question will be investigated at liberty. Actions are being taken to identify and document all persons involved in the aforementioned illegal actions and to hold them criminally liable.
