Two patrol inspectors and an intermediary were recently detained by the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and the Chisinau municipal prosecutors in a passive corruption case. They are suspected of demanding and accepting illicit remuneration not to document a case of drink-driving without a driving license.
According to the case materials, the two police officers, while on duty, allegedly stopped a foreign citizen in the Anenii Noi locality at the wheel of a Dacia Duster vehicle. After checking the driver and the vehicle documents, it was found that he did not have the right to drive vehicles and was allegedly in a state of alcoholic intoxication. Not to draw up a report documenting the crime, the suspects allegedly demanded 60 000 lei - money that was later transmitted and received, through an intermediary, under the control of the NAC.
Today, searches were carried out at the offices and in the cars of the suspects, all 3 of whom were detained for 72 hours and placed in the NAC Detention Centre.
The actions took place under the procedural leadership of the prosecutors of the municipality of Chisinau. We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is pronounced.
