A lawyer from Chisinau, detained by the NAC and prosecutors from Balti, in a case of influence peddling, manifested by demanding a bribe of 65 000 euros

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors from Balti conducted criminal investigation actions within a case in which a lawyer from Chisinau is targeted. He is suspected of having demanded from the relatives of arrested persons monetary means in the amount of 15 000 euros and, respectively, 50 000 euros, to determine public figures and persons with public dignity to adopt favourable decisions regarding two persons under arrest.

The criminal investigation in the present case was initiated by the criminal investigation body of the National Anti-corruption Centre, based on a reasonable suspicion regarding the commission of the offense provided for in art. 326 para. (1) of the Criminal Code. After the transfer of the funds, under the control of the NAC, the lawyer was detained for 72 hours.

Currently, the NAC is carrying out actions, under the procedural leadership of the Prosecutor's Office of the municipality of Balti, to establish and document all persons involved in the aforementioned illegal actions and to hold them criminally liable.

We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered, and the investigations in this case continue.
