NAC: Over 400 corruption crimes detected and assets worth over 130 million lei identified in the first half of 2025
The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has presented the results of the activities carried out in the field of preventing and combating corruption, strengthening international cooperation and recovering criminal assets, during the review meeting for the first half of 2025. The event was attended by representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Justice, the National Integrity Authority, as well as civil society.
In the first six months of the year, the NAC detected 479 crimes, of which 412 are corruption and related crimes, and 67 - other types of crimes. Among the most frequent crimes are: active corruption - 165 cases, passive corruption and influence peddling. Most corruption cases were detected within the control bodies. During the same period, the criminal investigation body of the NAC managed 581 criminal cases, of which 364 were initiated by the NAC and 211 taken over from other institutions, and 164 cases were referred to justice.
The NAC's Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) identified, following parallel financial investigations, 408 assets worth a total of 130,640,116.05 lei, for which seizure orders were issued. At the same time, freezing orders were issued on 223 assets worth 22,436,421.52 lei. These include 9 real estate assets, 9 means of transport, 18 bank accounts and 187 cryptocurrency units.
The General Directorate for Corruption Prevention has reviewed 439 normative projects, of which 181 are draft laws and 258 draft decisions of the Government, conducted 156 anti-corruption trainings for about 11 000 people and developed 13 reports on monitoring anti-corruption policies. In addition, the NAC is in the process of assessing the institutional integrity of the State Tax Service, the Competition Council, the Civil Aviation Authority and the State Labour Inspectorate.
During the semester, the NAC intensified cooperation with international organizations and institutions, actively contributing to European integration reforms. The Centre participated in bilateral screening meetings and contributed to the development of the National Accession Program (2025–2029), as well as the Reform Agenda related to the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova (2025-2027). External assistance projects such as REDACT, EDMITE II or Moldova is Europe – Support for EU Integration have strengthened the capacities of the NAC and supported the alignment of the Republic of Moldova with EU standards.
The President of the Board of the Centre, the director of the NAC, Alexandr Pînzari, stressed the importance of continuing the necessary efforts to achieve the actions planned in the Action Plan for 2025. “The results presented today reflect not only the intensive work of our teams, but also the firm commitment of the National Anti-corruption Centre in the fight against corruption at all levels. At the same time, the NAC consolidates its position as a key actor in the European integration process,” said the director of the NAC.
The NAC Board exercises the collegial leadership of the institution, which meets to assess the results of the activities of the Centre’s subdivisions. The Board’s decision, approved during the meeting, is to be published on the official website of the NAC.
