18,000 euros for the position of forester. A man, criminally investigated by the National Anti-corruption Centre, fined 300,000 lei and confiscating the amount received for the promised influence

The Straseni Court (central headquarters) found a man guilty of committing two counts of influence peddling, in a case investigated by the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC). The court ordered a penalty of a fine of 300,000 lei for concurrent offenses.

According to the evidence presented in court, the convict, between May 2016 and January 2017, demanded and received money from two people, promising them that he would influence their employment as forester at the Straseni Forestry and Hunting Enterprise, through his intervention on public figures within this enterprise, but also within the "Moldsilva" Agency. Specifically, in May 2016, he requested and received 10,000 euros from a man to secure his employment. In January 2017, he requested and received another 8,000 euros from another person, with the same promise. However, despite these payments, the defendant's goal was not achieved, because the position of forester was already occupied. The convict did not admit his guilt for the acts committed.

The court ordered the confiscation of the equivalent of 18,000 euros, and in order to ensure the execution of the sentence and special confiscation, it maintained the seizure applied to a real estate property belonging to the convict.

The sentence can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal within 15 days.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
