An architect from Comrat was detained by the NAC for influence peddling and passive corruption

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), under the leadership of the Cahul Municipal Prosecutor's Office, conducted criminal investigation actions within a file opened on the acts of influence peddling and passive corruption. The actions target the architect from the Comrat City Hall, who allegedly demanded and received undue financial means for the issuance of a building permit.
According to the whistle-blower, the man allegedly requested financial means to facilitate the registration of a land plot assigned by the decision of the Comrat Municipal Council and to obtain a building permit for a building on this land. During the criminal investigation, the extorted financial means, in the amount of 6,000 lei, were transmitted under the control of the NAC officers. Other episodes of demanding and receiving money were also documented.
Following searches conducted this morning at the suspect's home, car and office, conclusive evidence for criminal investigation was found. The man was detained for 72 hours. Investigations continue to identify all connections and prove the facts.
The NAC reminds that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is issued.
