Two persons with management positions within the “Gheorghe Asachi Theoretical Lyceum in Chisinau, as well as decision-makers of a group of economic agents, are being investigated by officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor’s Office for alleged acts of embezzlement, passive corruption and influence peddling. They are suspected of embezzling funds on the balance sheet of the educational institution, through fictitious employment, as well as of systematically demanding, accepting and receiving financial means from various economic agents equivalent to approximately 10% of the value of contracts for the acquisition of goods, services and works. At the same time, there are reasonable suspicions that the officials received money from the parents of students enrolled in studies, without legal basis, under various pretexts.

During the operation, the NAC officers conducted searches at the homes and offices of the targeted persons, as well as at the headquarters of some economic agents involved in the criminal activity. Accounting documents, purchase contracts, sums of money, the origin of which is to be established, and other materials relevant to the case were seized from the scene, and the principal of the high school and the representative of an economic agent from Chisinau were detained for 72 hours by NAC officers.

Currently, the National Anti-corruption Centre, under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau Prosecutor's Office, is conducting criminal investigation actions to establish and document all the persons involved and bring them to criminal liability according to the legislation in force.
