An employee of the Design Institute, investigated by the NAC and APO, sentenced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 300 thousand lei

The Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, found a pedologist from the SE "Design Institute for Territorial Organization" guilty of committing two counts of passive corruption. On one count, the court ordered his release from punishment, in connection with the expiration of the statute of limitations. For the second count, the court ordered a 3-year prison sentence, suspended for a 3-year probationary period, a fine of 300,000 lei and deprivation of the right to exercise public functions for a period of 5 years. At the same time, the court ordered the confiscation of the amount of 11,000 lei, as monetary means resulting from crimes.

According to the evidence administered by the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (APO), in July 2021, the defendant allegedly accepted the proposal of the chief pedologist of the State Enterprise "Institute for Planning for Territorial Organization" (in respect of which the criminal case was disjoined), regarding the reduction of the percentage of creditworthiness, in the materials of the pedological investigations for the assessment of the creditworthiness of the soil, carried out on two plots of land in Ialoveni district, in exchange for 11,000 lei, money that he allegedly received from him.

The sentence can be appealed to the Central Court of Appeal within 15 days.

Note: The person accused of committing a crime shall be presumed innocent as long as his guilt is not established by a final court decision.
