Former interim president of Edineț Court searched by NAC and prosecutors in influence peddling case

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), together with prosecutors from the Chișinău City Prosecutor’s Office, searched the home, car and office of a former interim president of the Edineț Court. The actions were carried out as part of a criminal case of influence peddling.

According to the case materials, the former interim president allegedly demanded, accepted and received, through a man and other persons who are being identified, monetary means to influence people with public positions within the Edineț Court. The purpose of these actions was to determine the court to replace the preventive measure of arrest of a defendant with a milder one – provisional release under judicial control for 60 days.

The exact amount of the money claimed is to be established during the criminal investigation. Following the searches, objects and documents relevant to the investigation were seized. The suspect is being questioned and is to be investigated at liberty.

We remind that the case involving the magistrate is related to a corruption scheme exposed in July 2025 by NAC officers and prosecutors. According to the investigation, a lawyer, in collusion with two people who acted as intermediaries, allegedly claimed and received, in several installments, the total amount of approximately 500,000 lei, claiming that he could influence a prosecutor responsible for the criminal investigation in a case regarding the organization of illegal migration, in order to determine him to adopt a favorable solution towards a defendant. As evidence, in June 2025, the person concerned was removed from criminal investigation.

The NAC and prosecutors continue criminal investigation actions to establish the entire circle of persons involved and to fully document the acts of corruption.

We remind that every person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
