A lawyer from Chisinau investigated by the NAC for influence peddling. He allegedly demanded a bribe of 3,000 euros

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors from Balti municipality today conducted criminal investigations into a case of influence peddling targeting a lawyer from Chisinau. He is suspected of demanding illicit financial resources from the administrator of a company.

According to the accumulated materials, the suspect allegedly claimed that he had influence over some people in a law enforcement institution and that he could determine them to adopt a favourable decision regarding the materials accumulated on the activity of the targeted company. He allegedly demanded 3,000 euros for mediation.

Today, the NAC officers conducted searches, under the procedural leadership of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, to identify and document all persons involved in the aforementioned illegal actions and to hold them criminally liable. The suspect is to be investigated at liberty.

The NAC reminds that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is issued. The investigations continue.
