A lawyer, detained by the NAC and the Balti Prosecutor's Office for influence peddling and receiving bribes in particularly large proportions

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), under the leadership of the Balti Prosecutor's Office, is conducting a criminal investigation into a case regarding suspicions of committing the crime of influence peddling, including receiving goods in particularly large proportions.

According to the case materials, a lawyer is suspected of having demanded and received the sum of 50,000 euros, in several instalments, from a person, claiming to have influence over some magistrates, in order to influence a decision in a civil case. The money was allegedly offered so that the lawyer could determine the judges to quash a decision issued by a lower court, by which a company was to return a debt of almost 3 million lei to another company.

This same lawyer is also targeted in a new episode, starting with July 25, 2025, in which he allegedly demanded 7,000 euros from the same person, claiming that he could influence public figures so that they would file a criminal case in which the beneficiary of the payment is investigated for serious crimes.

Following special investigative measures carried out in the municipality of Chisinau, under the control of the NAC, the amount of 7,000 euros was transmitted to the lawyer, who was detained in flagrante delicto. Following the search of the "Land Rover Discovery" model car, the amount of 7,000 euros was discovered.

The investigations continue, and the NAC and the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office are cooperating to identify all the people involved and fully document the facts.
