NAC and prosecutors are conducting criminal investigations in Chisinau and the south of the country in a case of illegal financing of a political party: 17 suspects, including 4 people detained
Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), in collaboration with prosecutors from the Cahul Municipal Prosecutor's Office, are conducting criminal investigations in the south of the country, in a criminal case based on the illegal financing of a political party. The searches are taking place in the municipalities of Chisinau and Comrat and target several addresses, including public institutions. So far, four people have been detained and are to be placed in the NAC's Detention Centre. In total, 17 people are targeted in this case, suspected of involvement in illegal actions related to the non-compliant financing of a political party.
According to the evidence administered by the NAC and prosecutors, the individuals are suspected of being involved in providing financial means to political activists for organizing electoral activities. Also, episodes of paying salaries in envelopes for activists of the party have been documented, as well as cases of collecting signatures in support of a politician, in return for payment.
We note that the criminal proceedings are ongoing. Any person, accused of committing a crime, benefits from the presumption of innocence, until a final and irrevocable court decision is pronounced.
