NAC and prosecutors of Balti municipality intervened in a case of systemic corruption at the Edinet Police Inspectorate: one policeman was detained, and four others are being investigated at large

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), in collaboration with the Balti Municipality Prosecutor's Office, carried out actions within a criminal case targeting corruption acts committed by employees of the Edinet Police Inspectorate. The case was initiated based on reasonable suspicion regarding the commission of the crime of passive corruption, which targets the head and four employees of the Patrol Service of the Public Security Department.
According to the accumulated materials, the head of the Service allegedly demanded, accepted and received monthly goods and financial means from a natural person to facilitate illegal timber trade activities, without applying the legal measures provided for. Specifically, he is suspected of having received 90 cubic meters of wood and money in a total amount of 46,800 lei, remitted in four instalments, in different locations in the municipality of Edineț.
At the same time, based on the evidence obtained as a result of special investigative measures, five new criminal cases for passive corruption were initiated. Four other employees of the same service are suspected of having demanded and received illicit amounts of money from drivers between April and June 2025, not to document traffic violations.
On June 30, NAC officers and prosecutors conducted eight searches – both at the homes of the targeted individuals and in their personal vehicles. As a result, one person was detained, and four other people are being investigated at large.
The NAC continues the criminal investigation actions under the procedural leadership of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, and the investigations are ongoing. We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
