NAC and prosecutors conduct over 30 searches in a corruption case in the issuance of driving licenses. 23 people are suspects
Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), in collaboration with prosecutors of the Chisinau municipality, are conducting over 30 searches in a criminal case targeting systemic corruption in the process of obtaining driving licenses in the Calarasi district. The actions are taking place in continuation of the investigations initiated on October 15, when 50 searches were conducted and three people were detained for 72 hours.
According to the case materials, 23 people - 14 candidates for obtaining a driving license and 9 examiners from the “Ungheni” Driver Examination and Qualification Office - are being investigated for active corruption, passive corruption and influence peddling. The scheme involved demanding and receiving sums of between 500 and 700 euros to facilitate passing the theoretical and practical exams required to obtain a driving license.
Following the searches, one person was detained, and another 22 are to be recognized and questioned as suspects, being investigated at liberty. The NAC and prosecutors continue the criminal investigation actions to document all the people involved and to fully identify the criminal chain.
We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is pronounced.
