NAC conducts searches in a case regarding violation of construction rules on the land of the former "GAUDEAMUS" cinema
The National Anti-corruption Centre and the prosecutors of Chisinau municipality are currently conducting searches in a criminal case targeting a representative of a construction company from Chisinau, as well as other persons responsible for authorizing the execution of construction works. The criminal case was initiated on the fact of violating the rules for the execution of constructions with five or more floors on the territory of the former "GAUDEAMUS" cinema, located in the centre of the capital.
According to the evidence administered, the representatives of the construction company, in the absence of the opinion of the Ministry of Culture, allegedly obtained from the Chisinau City Hall the necessary permissive documents, including the urban planning certificate, and subsequently the construction permit for the construction of a multifunctional complex with over 15 floors, located near the protection zones of historical monuments and public spaces. It was also established that, in the absence of all mandatory permits, the construction company would have ordered the commencement of the actual works, in violation of the normative distances between the construction and the protection zones of the historical monuments in question.
Based on the findings, the NAC initiated a criminal case, as there was a reasonable suspicion regarding the violation of the rules for the execution of constructions for buildings with five or more floors. Currently, searches are taking place at the administrators of a construction company, in several locations in the municipality of Chisinau, in order to establish all the circumstances of the case, identify all the persons involved and hold them criminally liable, according to the legislation in force.
All the persons concerned are to be heard as suspects.
We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is pronounced.
