NAC conducts searches in Chisinau, Orhei and the south of the country in cases of illegal financing of political parties, money laundering and electoral corruption

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), in collaboration with the Chisinau Prosecutor's Office, is conducting criminal investigation actions in a criminal case regarding illegal financing of political parties, money laundering and corruption of voters, committed under aggravating circumstances. This morning, the NAC officers carried out searches on the territory of the municipalities of Chisinau and Orhei, as well as in the south of the country. As a result of these actions, one person was detained, there being reasonable suspicions regarding his involvement in the commission of the aforementioned crimes.
According to preliminary data, the investigations target an organized group, consisting of decision-makers, members and supporters of political parties, who, in the period preceding the parliamentary elections of September 28, 2025, allegedly implemented a criminal plan. This consisted of recruiting voters or political supporters, who were promised or offered money, goods, services or other benefits to induce them to exercise their electoral rights in a certain way, including in favour of certain parties. The activities were coordinated through various applications, including multiple accounts on the Telegram platform.
In fact, the members of the group are suspected of having participated in the transfer, conversion and disguise of the origin of financial means derived from illicit income, using bank accounts and electronic wallets, including those from abroad. The funds were illegally introduced into the territory of the Republic of Moldova and subsequently used to finance political activities, contrary to legal provisions.
At the same time, electoral corruption actions are being investigated through which politically affiliated individuals identified and recruited voters, offering them material benefits to influence electoral behaviour.
Following the searches, significant amounts of money in various currencies, electronic information storage devices, draft documents and other relevant evidence were discovered and seized, confirming involvement in voter corruption activities and illegal support for a political party.
The detained person is to be placed in the NAC's Detention Centre.
At this time, the procedural actions are ongoing. We will come back with additional details upon completion of the operation.
The NAC encourages citizens to report suspicious actions related to electoral corruption and reminds about the activation of two telephone lines intended to receive reports regarding voter corruption, illegal financing of political parties, attempts to illegally influence the vote, or other suspicious actions in the electoral context.
