The NAC Synthesis: 11 criminal cases initiated on a systemic corruption scheme at Florești District Hospital, a lawyer investigated for a bribe of 50,000 euros and seizures applied by the CARA of about 23 million lei

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) presents the main actions carried out in the previous week in the field of combating and preventing corruption, as well as the recovery of criminal assets. During the reporting period, the NAC officers carried out searches in a corruption case targeting several employees of the Florești District Hospital - Public Medical and Health Institution, suspected of passive corruption and influence peddling. The searches took place at the residences and work offices of the targeted individuals, including: the head of the Consultative Section, two nurses, a neurologist, the chief accountant, as well as other individuals, beneficiaries of the medical services investigated.

Other searches were carried out in a case of influence peddling. According to the case materials, a lawyer allegedly claimed to have influence over public officials, who were being identified, and allegedly demanded sums of money between 20,000 and 50,000 euros from several defendants in a criminal case. In exchange for the financial means, the lawyer allegedly promised to influence the change of the preventive measures applied to them. At the same time, criminal investigation officers announce the initiation of 21 new criminal cases and the proposal for resolution of 9 cases. The NAC specifies that, currently, 2 people are in solitary confinement, and another 11 defendants, detained in cases managed by the Centre, are placed in preventive detention in penitentiary institutions.

The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) seized 16 assets worth about 3 million lei and took over 830,000 lei in administration. Other previously seized assets worth about 20 million lei were confirmed, and 2.1 million lei were taken over in administration for deposit in the treasury accounts of the NAC.

In terms of corruption prevention, the NAC submitted 32 expert reports and 2 opinions on draft normative acts to the authors. Also, 3 operational analyses were completed, 93 integrity records were issued, and over 400 officials participated in anti-corruption training. The National Anti-corruption Line received 60 calls, and 1,753 materials were registered in the institution's Chancellery.
