NAC Synthesis: 2 defendants placed in preventive arrest and one under house arrest in the systemic corruption case in the issuance of driving licenses in Călărași and assets worth approximately 1.6 million lei seized

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has presented the weekly report on the activities carried out in the areas of combating and preventing corruption, as well as on the recovery of assets derived from crimes. During the reference period, the NAC and prosecutors carried out over 50 searches in a systemic corruption case in the issuance of driving licenses in Călărași, as a result of which 3 people were detained for 72 hours. The court issued 30-day preventive arrest warrants for 2 individuals, and one of them was ordered under house arrest. During the reporting period, the NAC's criminal investigation officers initiated 4 criminal cases. At the moment, 4 people are in the NAC Detention Centre, and 13 people, targeted in the Center's files, are detained in penitentiary institutions, being preventively arrested.

The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the NAC has seized assets worth approximately 1.6 million lei, including 8 means of transport and a bank account. The assets were frozen in fraud and money laundering cases, based on the delegations of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS) and the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office. At the same time, the Agency has taken over approximately 260 000 lei in administration.

In the corruption prevention segment, the Legislation Directorate has submitted 5 legislative expertise reports and 2 opinions to the authors. Also, the General Directorate for Prevention of Corruption (DGPC) launched the national campaign "Integrity for a Safe Society", aimed at strengthening the culture of integrity in public institutions.

During the reporting period, the National Anti-corruption Hotline received 35 calls, and 1,378 materials were registered in the institution's Chancellery.
