NAC Synthesis: 26 cases opened, searches carried out in high-profile files and seizures applied to criminal assets in the amount of about 3.3 million lei

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has presented the weekly balance sheet of the activities carried out in the fields of combating and preventing corruption, as well as on the criminal assets recovery. During the reference period, the NAC carried out several searches in files of illegal financing of political parties, but also in the field of construction. In the first case, 17 people are suspected of involvement in illegal actions related to the non-compliant financing of a political party. The searches took place in the municipalities of Chisinau and Comrat, including in public institutions. In the second case, the NAC carried out criminal investigation actions in Straseni in a file regarding the illicit actions of a company suspected of violating the construction execution regime.
During the same period, a former company director, investigated by the NAC and the APO, was sentenced to 5 years in prison and ordered to pay over 800 000 lei for smuggling. He, in complicity with other individuals, including employees of the Customs Service, allegedly introduced four batches of Bitcoin mining systems into the territory of the Republic of Moldova, in the names of non-existent individuals, in a total value of approximately 4 million lei, evading customs control.
The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency seized assets worth approximately 3.3 million lei, including means of transport, residential buildings and land for construction. During the reporting period, the criminal investigation officers of the National Anti-Corruption Commission initiated 26 cases.
In the field of corruption prevention, the Legislation Directorate submitted 24 legislative expertise reports and an opinion to the authors. At the same time, 205 integrity records were released, 3 operational analyses were conducted, and 91 calls were received at the national anti-corruption hotline. 1,770 materials were registered in the institution's Chancellery.
