The NAC Synthesis: Bid rigging at "Moldelectrica" and seizures applied by the CARA of about 3 million lei

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has presented the main actions carried out in the previous week in the field of combating and preventing corruption, as well as the criminal assets recovery. During the reporting period, the NAC officers carried out searches in a file regarding the illegal management of hazardous waste and rigging of a tender at the Moldelectrica State Enterprise, actions resulting in the detention of four individuals.

According to the investigation, following the rigged tenders, an economic agent who did not hold the necessary permits was designated the winner, which would have generated a real risk to the health of the population and the environment. At the same time, criminal investigation officers announce the initiation of 9 new criminal cases. The NAC specifies that, currently, 3 people are in detention centre, and another 15 defendants, detained in files managed by the Centre, are placed in preventive detention in penitentiary institutions.

The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) has seized assets worth approximately 3 million lei and issued freezing orders on virtual assets in the amount of 190 000 lei. At the same time, 530 000 lei have been taken over for administration.

In terms of corruption prevention, the NAC has submitted to the authors 19 expert reports and 4 opinions on draft normative acts. Also, 2 operational analyses have been completed, 94 integrity records have been issued, and over 200 officials have participated in anti-corruption training. The National Anti-corruption Line has received 73 calls, and 1510 materials have been registered in the institution's Chancellery.
