NAC Synthesis: Chief Architect from Hincesti, arrested for corruption, seizures of over 4.3 million lei applied to illicit assets and freezing orders on two luxury cars, real estate and a bank account

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) presents the weekly balance sheet of the activities carried out in the fields of combating and preventing corruption, as well as on the recovery of assets derived from crimes. During the mentioned period, the NAC officers carried out searches within the framework of 11 systemic corruption files that targeted the chief architect of Hincesti district, detained and arrested for passive corruption and influence peddling. The official allegedly claimed illicit remuneration for issuing permissive acts in the field of construction. By the court's decision, the accused was placed under house arrest for 30 days. The NAC and the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office also filed a criminal case against an administrator and three affiliated companies for fraud and money laundering. As part of the criminal investigation, 11 million lei, subject to confiscation for damages, were transferred to the NAC's Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) for administration.

During the reporting period, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency seized assets worth over 4.3 million lei: 2 residential premises, 2 non-residential premises, an agricultural plot and cash. Freezing orders were also issued on two luxury cars worth 1.5 million lei, on a part of a real estate asset and on a bank account worth approximately 49,000 euros. Other seizures worth 1.4 million lei were validated by court decisions. 1.2 million lei were transferred to the NACs treasury accounts.

The Criminal Investigation Directorate initiated 11 new criminal cases and submitted 18 other criminal files to prosecutors with a proposal for resolution. Four people were placed in the NAC's Detention Centre last week, and 9 defendants in the files managed by the Centre are in prisons.

In the field of corruption prevention, the Legislation Department issued 17 legislative expertise reports, and the National Anti-corruption Hotline received 56 calls. About 1,746 materials were registered in the institution's office.
