The NAC synthesis: searches and arrests in corruption cases, cases referred to court and seizures applied by the CARA in the amount of approximately 6 million lei
The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has presented the main actions carried out in the previous week in the field of combating and preventing corruption, as well as recovering criminal assets. During the reporting period, the NAC officers, together with the APO prosecutors, documented a scheme to demand a bribe worth 400,000 dollars to influence a money laundering case.
During the same period, the NAC detained four officials from Bălți and Chișinău — including a municipal councillor, a deputy chief architect, and cadastral specialists — who were operating a corruption scheme through which they illegally issued permissive acts for cadastral works. They are being investigated for corruption and influence peddling, after allegedly receiving amounts ranging from 10,000 to 120,000 lei from individuals and legal entities for illicit services. At the moment, three people are arrested for 30 days, and another is under house arrest. The CNA specifies that currently, 3 people are in the detention centre and 19 defendants, detained in files managed by the CNA, are placed in preventive detention in penitentiary institutions.
At the same time, a former president of the Călărași district, a former mayor of the city, two employees of the district council, as well as the administrator of a company, were sent to court for abuse of office, resulting in damage to the district budget worth over 288,000 lei. During the week, anti-corruption officers initiated 14 new criminal cases.
The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) has seized assets worth approximately 6 million lei in a case involving the embezzlement of foreign assets. Other previous seizures of approximately 1.5 million lei have been confirmed, and 2.5 million lei have been taken over for administration to deposit them in the treasury accounts of the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
In the field of corruption prevention, the National Anti-corruption Centre has submitted 26 expert reports and 2 opinions on draft normative acts to the authors. Also, 3 operational analyses have been completed, 136 integrity records have been issued, and over 600 officials have participated in anti-corruption training. The National Anti-corruption Line has received 70 calls.
