NAC Synthesis: Searches at a bailiff's office, 4,000 euros bribe for driving licenses and seizures of assets worth over 4.3 million lei

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has announced the summary of the activities carried out during the previous week in the area of combating and preventing corruption, as well as in the area of criminal assets recovery. Thus, the NAC officers carried out several searches in a criminal case targeting a bailiff and a creditor's representative, who are being investigated for abuse of office. The suspects allegedly hatched an illegal scheme within the framework of an enforcement procedure, through which the debtor was dispossessed of a real estate property located in Chisinau. In another case, a young man from Chisinau is being investigated in a case of influence peddling, which includes two episodes of corruption. He is suspected of having demanded and received a total of 4,000 euros from two people to influence employees of the Driver Examination Department within the Public Services Agency (ASP), to facilitate the fraudulent obtaining of driving licenses. At the moment, 3 people are in the NAC Detention Centre, and 5 people, targeted in the Centre’s files, are arrested and detained in penitentiary institutions. During the reporting period, the NAC's criminal investigation officers submitted 7 criminal cases to prosecutors for resolution, with another 9 files being initiated.

Also last week, the NAC's Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) seized 9 assets of illicit origin, totalling approximately 1.6 million lei. These include 8 means of transport and an agricultural plot. The assets were frozen in the context of money laundering, fraud and illegal migration cases, being seized based on the delegations of the General Inspectorate of Border Police (IGPF), the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) and the National Investigation Inspectorate (INI). At the same time, seizures previously applied to assets worth over 2.7 million lei were confirmed by court decisions.

In the field of corruption prevention, the Legislation Directorate finalized and submitted to the authors 14 expert reports and 9 opinions on draft normative acts, last week. At the same time, 5 anti-corruption trainings were organized and 2 operational analyses were carried out.

Also, during the mentioned period, 1,736 materials were registered in the NAC Chancellery, 143 integrity records were issued and 40 calls were received at the National Anti-corruption Hotline - 0 800 55555.
