NAC’s subdivisions presented their activity reports for 2024 at the Board meeting

The main subdivisions of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) presented their activity reports for 2024 today at the institution's Board meeting. The reports consisted of reporting on the activities and progress recorded by each NAC department in terms of the execution of the National Anti-corruption Centre’s Activity Plan for 2024.

Thus, in 2024, the Centre’s investigation officers detected 749 crimes, of which 629 are corruption and related acts and 120 - other categories of crimes. According to the severity criterion of the detected crimes: 578 serious, 74 less serious, 17 - particularly serious and 80 minor. The criminal prosecution body of the Centre, during the reporting period, investigated 1491 criminal cases, and in order to ensure the restitution of the damage, financial means and goods worth a total of over 31 million lei were seized. During the reporting period, 134 people were detained.

In the field of corruption prevention, 1349 draft normative acts were approved and expertized. Out of the total number of 923 expertized projects, 256 are draft laws, 645 – draft Government decisions, and 22 – draft departmental acts. Also, 327 anti-corruption trainings were organized for over 21 thousand audiences.

The Criminal Asset Recovery Agency ( CARA) of the NAC conducted parallel financial investigations within 272 delegations filed on 209 criminal cases regarding 370 subjects, the largest share of the delegations being for money laundering, organizing illegal migration and illicit enrichment. Following the parallel financial investigations, the CARA identified 333 criminal assets worth a total of approximately 1.3 billion lei.

Several institutional acts were approved during the meeting, such as the Action Plan of the NAC for 2025, the Institutional Development Program of the NAC for 2025-2028, the Performance Indicators in the Centre’s activity and the Decisions of the Board. At the same time, the priority areas in the activity of preventing and combating the phenomenon of corruption for 2025 were established:

- investigation and combating corruption crimes that endanger state security;

- combating systemic corruption in local and central public authorities;

- combating corruption in the field of public procurement;

- investigating the process of managing public funds or external funds.

The review meeting was attended by the NAC leadership, representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Justice, the National Integrity Authority and civil society. The decisions approved today and the NAC Activity Report for 2024, in full, will be published later.
