Over 20 searches by the NAC and APO in a case of influence peddling regarding the reacquiring of Romanian citizenship. Two individuals were detained
Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors from the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (APO) today carried out over 20 searches on several people suspected of committing the crime of influence peddling in several episodes.
According to the evidence administered, a person who was operating under the cover of a company, whose type of activity was the preparation of documents for citizens of the Republic of Moldova who wish to reacquire Romanian citizenship, as well as the provision of translation and apostille services, allegedly claimed, together with other people, that he had influence over employees of the Civil Registry Office in the municipality of Cahul and those of the Consulate General of Romania in the municipality of Cahul.
She allegedly demanded and received illicit remuneration from persons who were not eligible to obtain Romanian citizenship, stating that, through some civil servants, she could ensure the accumulation of civil status documents in an accelerated and priority regime.
At the same time, the person concerned would have facilitated the applicants' fictitious registration of the temporary residence visa in the municipality of Cahul and in the districts under the territorial jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Romania in the municipality of Cahul, so that they would meet the territorial distribution criteria and be able to submit the files for continuing the procedure for regaining Romanian citizenship at the Consulate General of Romania in the municipality of Cahul.
The same person would have demanded and received monetary means from various persons, claiming that he had influence over certain public figures within the Cahul Driver Examination Directorate of the Public Services Agency, to organize the successful passing of the theoretical and practical tests of the driving exam, with the subsequent issuance of the driving license.
