Over 5 million lei seized following the NAC searches on December 4, resulting in the detention of 7 people
The National Anti-corruption Centre announces the seizure of the equivalent of over 5 million lei following the completion of searches conducted on Thursday, December 4, within a case initiated on corruption in the public procurement process. The money, in different currencies, was found at the residences and work offices of some economic agents, as well as of some officials of the Chisinau Housing and Communal Department, and the origin of the financial means is to be established within the criminal investigation.
Today, prosecutors from the Balti Prosecutor's Office are to file charges against the detained persons and, if necessary, submit to the court the measures for preventive arrest.
We remind that four civil servants with the status of leaders, including the head of the General Directorate for Housing and Communal Department of the Chisinau City Hall, as well as three economic agents, were detained by the National Anti-corruption Centre for corruption. According to the evidence administered, the public persons targeted in the case are suspected of having, starting with 2024 and up to the present, implemented a criminal scheme of claiming, accepting and receiving illegally, systematically, commissions from the value of awarded tenders. In exchange for these illicit remunerations, the officials allegedly favoured certain economic operators in the process of awarding public contracts.
The criminal investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances, the persons involved and the damage caused to the municipal budget as a result of the criminal activity.
We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final court decision is rendered. The investigations in this case continue.
