A police officer was detained by the NAC and the Chisinau municipal prosecutors in flagrante delicto in a passive corruption case

CNA

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre, in collaboration with the Chisinau municipal prosecutors, detained an employee of the Nisporeni Police Inspectorate in flagrante delicto at the moment of receiving 4,000 lei of money that was not due to him. The officer is suspected of having demanded, accepted and received money from a resident of the city of Nisporeni, through extortion, not to draw up a protection order against him and to avoid being held criminally liable in a case of domestic violence, the person concerned having previously been sanctioned as a minor for a similar act.

The criminal investigation was initiated based on a reasonable suspicion regarding the commission of the crime provided for in art. 324 para. (4) letter (a) of the Criminal Code – passive corruption committed by a person with a responsible position.

On November 17, the employee’s personal car was searched, and the funds transferred under the control of the NAC officers, as well as other evidence relevant to the case, were seized. Currently, the NAC is carrying out actions under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau City Prosecutor’s Office to identify all the persons involved and fully document the circumstances of the case.

We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
