Searches in the capital, carried out by the NAC in an electoral corruption case. Over 1,000,000 lei was seized from individuals affiliated with a Russian foundation

The officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and the prosecutors of the Chisinau municipality have carried out searches in several locations in the Chisinau municipality in a case opened on electoral corruption, as well as on violations of the management of the financial means of a political party. Currently, a wide range of criminal investigation actions are being carried out against individuals who are allegedly connected to a foundation in the Russian Federation, included in the European Union sanctions list and affiliated with political parties. 

Following the actions carried out this morning, financial means in different currencies, the equivalent of over 1,000,000 lei, draft documents, as well as electronic devices that would contain information pertinent to the criminal case, were seized. At the moment, the persons targeted in the NAC investigations are being investigated at liberty, with the application of restrictions imposed by law. The investigations on the case are ongoing under the procedural leadership of the prosecutors of the municipality of Chisinau.

We specify that passive electoral corruption provides for the finding of the facts of claiming, accepting or receiving, personally or through an intermediary, by a person of goods, services, privileges or advantages in any form, which are not due to him, for himself or for another person, for the purpose of exercising or not exercising electoral rights.

We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable decision is rendered by the court.
