Four civil servants with the status of leaders, including the head of the General Directorate for Housing and Communal Department of the Chisinau City Hall, as well as three economic agents, were detained by the National Anti-corruption Centre for corruption. The detentions took place this morning, preceded by searches carried out by the NAC officers, jointly with prosecutors from the Bălți Municipal Prosecutor's Office, targeting several heads of departments and services within the General Directorate for Housing and Communal Development of the Chisinau Municipal Council, as well as representatives of some economic agents.

According to the evidence administered, the public figures targeted in the case are suspected of having, starting with 2024 and up to the present, implemented a criminal scheme of claiming, accepting and receiving illegal, systemic commissions from the value of awarded tenders. In exchange for these illicit remunerations, the officials would have favoured certain economic operators in the process of awarding public contracts. Following today's raids, several objects and documents proving the criminal activity were seized, including financial means, in different currencies, in a total amount of over 3 million lei.

Seven people were detained for 72 hours and are to be placed in the NAC Detention Centre. The criminal investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances, the people involved and the damage caused to the municipal budget as a result of the criminal activity.

We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final court decision is rendered. Investigations into this case continue.
