Synthesis: Three people from the capital and the north of the country, detained in corruption cases and 44 criminal assets, worth over 10 million lei, frozen by the orders of the NAC's CARA
The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has reported several activities, last week, on the corruption prevention and combating component. Thus, a former civil servant from the north of the country was detained for demanding a bribe of 50,000 lei to influence the decision of local public authorities in order to obtain the opinion for the documentation regarding the allocation of land for a building. In another case of influence peddling, also from the north of the country, a man allegedly received 34,300 lei and 1,000 euros, to obtain a favourable decision in a criminal case. At the same time, following a whistleblowing, a police officer from the capital was detained with a bribe of 1,000 euros. We note that at the moment, a person is detained in the Detention Centre of the NAC, and another 11 people, targeted in the Centre’s files, are arrested and detained in penitentiary institutions in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti. During the reporting period, the NAC's criminal investigation officers submitted 21 criminal cases to prosecutors for resolution, with another 5 files being initiated.
Also, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the National Anti-corruption Centre has announced the seizure of 3 assets worth approximately 500 000 lei last week, based on the delegations of the Falesti Police Inspectorate and the General Inspectorate of Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. These include a means of transport, an agricultural plot and a construction plot. The assets were seized in a case of fraud and the organization of illegal migration. At the same time, freezing orders were issued on 44 assets, including 33 cryptocurrencies, movable and immovable assets worth a total of over 10.5 million lei. 1.5 million lei were deposited on the NAC treasury accounts, managed by the Agency.
In the field of corruption prevention, the Legislation Directorate finalized and submitted to the authors 17 expert reports and 2 opinions on draft normative acts, last week. During the mentioned period, 4 anti-corruption trainings were organized for about 450 people in the Rîșcani and Edineț districts as part of the information campaign "I Decide with Integrity - I Vote with Accountability" to promote integrity in the electoral process. The NAC notifies the completion of 4 operational analyses, the release of 136 integrity records, the reception of 50 calls to the National Anti-corruption Hotline and the registration of 1810 materials in the Centre’s Chancellery.
