A former trainee lawyer from Chisinau was detained yesterday evening by officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and Chisinau prosecutors. He is suspected of demanding and receiving money from two convicts to induce the judges to adopt a favourable decision regarding their release from detention.

According to the case materials, the former trainee lawyer allegedly demanded and received from two convicted persons financial means that were not due to him, in a total amount of 32,000 euros (the equivalent of approximately 650,000 lei), claiming that he would have influence over persons with public positions and that he could determine them to issue a favourable solution in their file. The suspect's act was documented by the NAC officers, including the transfer of the money.

Following the searches carried out yesterday, the suspect was detained for 72 hours and placed in detention centre. Currently, the NAC is carrying out actions, under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau City Prosecutor's Office, to establish and document all persons involved in the aforementioned illegal actions and to hold them criminally liable.

We remind that every person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.

The NAC searches in an influence peddling case: Employment at "Moldsilva", for amounts of up to 8000 euros

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office, today conducted criminal investigation actions in an influence peddling case. The investigations target a scheme through which employment at the "Moldsilva" Agency was allegedly promised in exchange for illicit financial benefits.

According to preliminary data, two suspects allegedly demanded and received from several individuals monetary means in the amount of 5000 to 8000 euros, claiming that they would have influence over employees of the "Moldsilva" Agency to facilitate employment as forester.

During the procedural actions carried out, the NAC officers documented acts of demanding and receiving financial means by the investigated individuals. One of the men was detained for 72 hours and placed in the NAC detention centre.

The NAC Synthesis: 1.3 million dollars deposited on CARA account held on cryptocurrency trading platform and seizures applied and confirmed on criminal assets of about 13 million lei

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has presented the main actions carried out in the previous week. The Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) jointly with the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) under the National Anti-corruption Centre, collected and transferred for safekeeping and administration to the Agency's account held on the cryptocurrency trading platform virtual assets worth 1,289,850, dollars within the framework of a criminal case initiated under art.243 (money laundering) of the Criminal Code. Also, during the reporting period, the CARA applied seizures on assets worth about 5 million lei, in a case of abuse of power, fraud and intentional insolvency, and the courts confirmed previously applied seizures, worth about 8 million lei.

Criminal investigation officers announce the initiation of 11 new criminal cases, and another 8 files have been sent to the prosecutor with a proposal to refer to trial. Currently, 3 people are in Detention Centre and 10 defendants, detained in the files managed by the institution, are placed in preventive detention in penitentiary institutions.

In the segment of corruption prevention, the NAC sent the authors 24 expert reports on draft normative acts. Also, 3 operational analyses were completed, 167 integrity records were released, and over 350 officials benefited from anti-corruption training. The National Anti-corruption Line received 48 calls, and 1,727 materials were registered in the institution's office.

Searches in the north of the country: five people detained by the NAC and prosecutors in Balti in corruption cases in the field of construction

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), jointly with prosecutors from the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, announce the detention of five people in several criminal cases initiated on acts of influence peddling, passive corruption and active corruption. Among the detained people are two founders and administrators of economic agents operating in the field of construction, as well as three public figures, employed as deputy directors of vocational education institutions in Balti municipality and a technical manager (site manager) within the IMSP Singerei District Hospital - a person authorized by the state to exercise public interest duties in the field of construction.

According to the accumulated materials, one of the administrators, acting in a criminal interest, allegedly offered and transferred funds in amounts ranging from 8,000 to 35,000 lei to public figures, to determine them not to properly verify the volume and quality of the works executed within public procurement contracts carried out with state institutions, including educational and medical institutions. In this way, the reception of the works executed with deviations was facilitated.

At the same time, another administrator is suspected of claiming that he would have influence over public figures within the National Inspectorate for Technical Supervision, and of demanding and receiving illicit financial means from a person, in order to determine decision-makers to perform actions contrary to their duty and not to create impediments to the reception of a construction.

On April 14, 2026, the NAC officers, together with the prosecutors of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, conducted 15 searches within the framework of the targeted criminal cases. As a result of the criminal investigation, five people were detained for 72 hours, as follows: two administrators of economic agents, two deputy directors of vocational education institutions in Balti municipality and a construction site supervisor.

At the moment, the criminal investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the case and identify all the people involved.

The NAC trained over 350 officials from several public authorities this week

Over 350 employees were trained by officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) on integrity standards during 8 training sessions held this week. Beneficiaries include civil servants, police officers, rescuers, medical professionals and staff from the penitentiary system. The sessions targeted institutions such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the North and Centre Regional Development Agencies, the State Agency for Intellectual Property, structures of the Ministry of Interior and health institutions.

The “Integrity for a Safe Society” campaign continued among officials of structures subordinate to the Ministry of Interior, through information sessions held at the Drochia Police Inspectorate and the territorial subdivisions of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).

In the field of health, the NAC continued promoting the “Integrity for Health” campaign. In this context, the NAC officers together with anti-corruption volunteers held discussions with medical personnel from the Glodeni Health Centre, focused on preventing corruption manifestations.

We remind that the purpose of the activities carried out by the NAC officers on the corruption prevention component is oriented towards cultivating and strengthening the climate of institutional integrity, by promoting anti-corruption and integrity policies.
