Driving instructor from Chișinău detained by the NAC and prosecutors in a influence-peddling case

A driving instructor from a driving school in Chișinău is under investigation by officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors from the Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO) in a criminal case involving influence peddling. He is suspected of having demanded and received illicit funds from an applicant to facilitate the issuance of a Category "B" driving licence.

According to the case files, the suspect allegedly claimed and accepted 900 euros from the applicant, claiming to have influence over officials at the Chișinău Driver Examination Department of the Public Services Agency and promising he could induce them to ensure a passing score on the practical exam. Following the handover of the money, the candidate reportedly received a "pass" rating on the practical test and was issued a provisional driver's license.

Today, the NAC officers conducted searches at the suspect's residence and in his vehicle, seizing evidence relevant to the criminal investigation. The suspect has been detained for 72 hours and placed in the NAC detention centre. The criminal investigation remains underway to establish all circumstances and identify every individual involved.

Everyone shall be presumed innocent until being found guilty by a final criminal judgement.
