A lawyer, detained by the NAC and prosecutors in a case of influence peddling and fraud

Un avocat, reținut de CNA și procurori într-un dosar de trafic de influență și escrocherie

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), under the procedural leadership of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, are conducting criminal investigation actions in a case of influence peddling and fraud in which a lawyer is targeted.

According to the case materials, he, taking advantage of the trust of the relatives of some people he was defending in the courts in cases regarding drunk driving and hooliganism, allegedly demanded and received from them 2,200 euros and 16,000 lei for legal services that he did not intend to provide.

In another episode, the lawyer allegedly received 1,300 euros under the pretext of hiring an independent expert to ensure a milder sentence for the defendants, a service that was never performed. At the same time, he is suspected of having received another 3,000 euros, claiming that he has influence over people at the appeal court and that he can induce them to adopt a favorable decision.

Currently, the NAC officers are conducting three searches at the suspect's home, office and car, to accumulate evidence relevant to the criminal case. The lawyer was detained for 72 hours and placed in the NAC detention centre.

We would like to point out that every person shall benefit from the presumption of innocence and shall be considered innocent until a final court decision is rendered.
