A man caught red-handed by the NAC and APO in Cimișlia. He allegedly demanded 1,500 euros to hush up a drunk driving case

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), jointly with prosecutors from the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (APO), have caught a man red-handed, suspected of influence peddling. He allegedly demanded and received 1,500 euros, claiming to have influence over employees of the National Public Security Inspectorate (NPSI).

According to the case files, the suspect promised the whistleblower that he could persuade the police officers not to document him for driving under the influence and not to apply the sanctions provided by law.

The arrest in flagrante delicto took place yesterday evening at the bus station in the town of Cimișlia, immediately after the transfer of the 1,500-euro sum under the NAC supervision. Following a search conducted at the scene, the money was found and seized from the suspect's vehicle.

The man was detained for 72 hours and placed in the temporary detention centre. Criminal investigation activities are currently underway to establish all circumstances of the case and identify other individuals involved.
