The NAC and APO have detained a lawyer from Ungheni in an influence-trafficking case

CNA și Procuratura Anticorupție au reținut un avocat din Ungheni într-un dosar de trafic de influență

The National Anti-Corruption Centre (NAC) and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (APO) have informed about the detention of a lawyer from the municipality of Ungheni, in a criminal case initiated on acts of influence-trafficking.

According to the accumulated materials, the suspect, acting as a lawyer, allegedly demanded and received from a person undue monetary means, in a total amount of 5,000 euros, claiming that he could influence certain public officials to obtain a favourable decision in a criminal case concerning the crime of domestic violence.

In this context, officers of the National Anti-Corruption Centre, jointly with prosecutors of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, conducted searches in the suspect's car and at his residence, during which objects and documents relevant to the criminal case were seized. Following the criminal investigation, the lawyer was detained for 72 hours.

Investigations are ongoing to establish all the circumstances and the people involved. We remind that any person benefits from the presumption of innocence until a final court decision is rendered.
