The NAC and Italy’s Guardia di Finanza signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Combating Economic and Financial Crime

CNA și Garda Financiară din Italia au semnat un Memorandum de înțelegere privind cooperarea în combaterea criminalității economico-financiare

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and the Italian Guardia di Finanza (GdF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in combating economic and financial crime on September 15. The document was signed in Rome by the Director of the NAC, Alexandr Pînzari, and the Commanding General of the Guardia di Finanza, Andrea de Gennaro. The Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Italian Republic, Oleg Nica, who contributed to advancing bilateral relations, was also present at the signing ceremony.

The agreement provides for cooperation and the exchange of expertise in areas such as investigating corruption and economic-financial offenses, as well as information sharing for tracing, tracking, freezing, recovering, and efficiently managing illicit assets.

The NAC Director Alexandr Pînzari underscored the significance of the agreement, stating that economic-financial crime, corruption, tax evasion, and money laundering know no borders. Therefore, effective cooperation, prompt information exchange, and joint actions are essential to identifying the perpetrators and holding them accountable.

"The signing of this Memorandum is an important step toward strengthening cooperation between the NAC and Italy’s Guardia di Finanza. Nearly 25 years after the founding of the NAC, our agency is expanding its remit in investigating economic and financial crimes, and the more than 250 years of experience of the Guardia di Finanza represents a vital source of best practices. This marks the beginning of an effective partnership built on dialogue, shared expertise, and concrete results," the NAC Director emphasized.

For his part, the Commanding General of the Guardia di Finanza, Andrea de Gennaro, stressed the need to expand international cooperation networks and ensure the operational efficiency of data exchange to effectively counter economic and financial crime.

The initiative took place within the framework of the project "Supporting Anti-Corruption Efforts in the Republic of Moldova," implemented by the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities.

Note: Italy’s Guardia di Finanza is a law enforcement agency with military status, specializing in combating economic and financial crime. Established in 1774, the agency brings over 250 years of experience in investigating offenses of this nature.
