NAC and prosecutors conduct searches at Penitentiary No. 6 Soroca in a case of passive and active corruption. A section chief was detained

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), in collaboration with the Bălți Municipal Prosecutor's Office, conduct several searches at the management of Penitentiary No. 6 Soroca, as well as at a detainee from the same institution. The operation is being carried out as part of a criminal case opened on acts of passive and active corruption.

According to the case materials, a section chief from the penitentiary is suspected of having repeatedly requested and received money from the wife of a detainee in exchange for facilitating the transmission of prohibited items to persons in detention. This morning's searches are taking place in the management offices and in some cells within the penitentiary, at the homes and cars of the persons concerned, but also at some third parties.

Following the criminal investigation, a section chief was detained and is to be placed in solitary confinement for 72 hours, according to legal procedures.

The NAC and the Bălți Municipal Prosecutor's Office continue to carry out criminal investigations and special investigations to establish the entire circle of persons involved, fully document the facts and hold all participants criminally liable.

Every person shall be considered innocent until a final and irrevocable decision is rendered by the court.
