Searches in Causeni: the NAC is investigating 30 individuals, involved in a fraudulent corruption driving license exams scheme
Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors of the Chisinau municipality are conducting searches in a criminal case targeting several individuals, employees of the Public Services Agency, within the Causeni Driver Examination and Qualification Department, as well as the administrator and instructors of a driving school, suspected of involvement in acts of systemic corruption.
According to the case materials, the suspects allegedly demanded and received from candidates who graduated from the driving school amounts ranging between 350 and 400 euros to encourage them to take the practical test and obtain a driving license. The criminal investigation was initiated based on a reasonable suspicion of committing the crimes provided for in art. 324, art. 325 and art. 326 of the Criminal Code – passive corruption, active corruption, influence peddling and influence buying, with a total of 30 people being investigated.
As a result of the searches, driving licenses allegedly obtained fraudulently, documents regarding the candidates’ schooling and practical test, draft documents, as well as electronic devices containing information relevant to the criminal case were seized. Three people were detained for 72 hours, and others are being investigated at liberty.
The NAC and the Chisinau municipal prosecutors are taking action to establish all the circumstances of the case, identify all the people involved and hold them criminally liable. The representatives of the Public Services Agency provided support to the anti-corruption officers in investigating the case.
