The young man who robbed two girls of almost 500,000 lei, money belonging to a political party, was sentenced to 8 years in prison, 4 of which were suspended

The Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, found a man guilty of committing the crime of robbery. The court ordered the application of a prison sentence for a term of 8 years, with the execution of half of this sentence, namely 4 years in prison, and the rest being suspended for a probationary period of 3 years. The term of execution of the sentence is to be calculated from the moment of the defendant's arrest, as he has been announced as wanted.

The funds in the amount of 487,450 lei were confiscated by the court through the sentence of conviction of a former Bashkan of Gagauzia and a secretary of a political party.

At the same time, the court admitted the civil action filed by one of the injured parties and ordered the collection from the defendant of the amount of over 20,000 lei, consisting of material and moral damage and legal assistance expenses.

Regarding the accusation of hooliganism, the court assessed the facts as a contravention and terminated the contravention process, on the grounds that the statute of limitations had expired.

According to the evidence administered by the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), jointly with the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (APO), the defendant, applying non-dangerous violence to the victims, allegedly openly stole a package containing 487,450 lei in cash. Subsequently, violating public order and with hooligan intentions, he allegedly initiated a conflict with a citizen who tried to intervene in the defence of the victims and allegedly struck him with a metal crowbar, causing him, according to the forensic report, minor bodily injuries.

During the criminal investigation, it was established that the stolen money was intended to finance the protests organized by the political party in front of various public institutions in the municipality of Chisinau.

Accordingly, this money was seized and recognized as corpus delicti in the case file on the illegal financing of the political party.

The sentence may be appealed to the Central Court of Appeal within 15 days of its pronouncement.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime shall presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
